Escondido, CA - Designed and Built in 2006 by BDA/CMP; 13,141 sf with expansion capability. Acacia is a small animal primary care hospital with special capabilities for avian and exotic pets. It is located on a medical campus developed in conjunction with the new Children’s Hospital. A central lobby serves the general, avian/exotic as well as boarding and training areas. The waiting area is rich in information and entertainment displays encouraging clients to explore various zones. A large boarding wing includes space for 70 canines, 21 of which are luxury runs, feline condos, and one of very few purpose-built avian and exotic boarding areas. The design focus was to emphasize stress reduction for client and patient alike.

VRCC

Veterinary Economics 2000 Hospital Design Competition – Merit Award

Englewood, CO - BDA/CMP renovated a vacant “big box retail” electronics store into a two-story, 19,000 sf emergency/referral hospital. New windows were cut into the existing masonry walls to allow abundant natural light into the once dark interior. The two-story lobby leads to an impressive central reception desk. Sixteen exam rooms were provided for the eight existing specialties. A central surgical/imaging suite highlights the design and the treatment area features adjacent glass enclosed runs and cage ICU areas. Endoscopy, ultrasound, chemotherapy, I-131 nuclear medicine and hydrotherapy suites were featured in the design. Elevators and stairs service the second floor administration, DVM/technician offices, employee lounge and staff education center.

Veterinary Specialty Hospital

At over 27,000 square feet this leading edge facility includes virtually every major service found in human hospitals. Specialties include Surgery (surgical suite with 6 operatories), Radiology, Neurology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Emergency/Critical Care, Radiation Oncology/Nuclear Medicine, Hydrotherapy/Physical Therapy, and Hemo-dialysis (in association with the University of California, Davis). Oradell Animal Hospital

Oradell, New Jersey

BDA designed renovations and a major facelift to a vacant 36,000 sf electronics factory for one of the world’s largest private veterinary practices.  The facility provides 25 exam rooms in 4-6 exam room “pods” to achieve a smaller hospital ambiance and improved working team environment. Numerous design innovations were incorporated including BDA’s highly efficient and private check-out/cashier design, a centralized administration/phone reception/greeting area, self-contained four OR/surgical theater/ICU, dispensing pharmacy, MRI, education center, imaging suite, hydrotherapy, I-131 nuclear medicine suite, and efficient central processing/storage design.

Purdue North Central Veterinary Emergency Center

Westville, Indiana

This 10,000 sf two-story emergency/referral facility was completed as a joint venture between Purdue University and the surrounding local private veterinarians. Its powerful exterior design relates well to the campus architecture while providing the veterinary hospital a unique, professional identity. Its five exam rooms are readily expandable to twelve, and the second floor provides both living quarters and administrative/teaching support space. Its workflow is especially effective for 24 hour emergency operations.

Meadow Hills Veterinary Center

Veterinary Economics 2001 Hospital Design Competition – Winner, Hospital of the Year

Kennewick, WA - Design/Build, 2000. This 6,636 sf facility is a general practice hospital and 24 hour emergency center. A corner site afforded the opportunity of two building fronts, yet strong entry recognition is necessary in an emergency practice. By using a tall central clerestory the entry element is emphasized and natural light is brought deep into the floor plan. Stone, timber and metal roof panels are the defining exterior materials. The floor plan is designed to provide an efficient workplace for staff and a relaxing, yet professional atmosphere for clients.

Calusa Veterinary Center

Boca Raton, Florida

Veterinary Economics 2007 Hospital Design Competition - Merit Award

Designed and Built by BDA/CMP 2005 to 2006, it is a 10,000 sf small animal hospital incorporating conventional and homeopathic medicine, as well as 24 hour emergency and rehabilitation services. Designed in a Key West style both the architecture and interior design reflect the sophistication of this practice’s demographic.

Gail Holmes Equine Orthopaedic Research Center

Ft. Collins, Colorado

Designed especially to support the world-leading orthopaedic research work of C. Wayne McIlwraith, DVM, this facility consists of a hospital/surgical center and two equine housing wings. The 4,000 sf hospital includes central surgery with adjacent prep/standing stock and two induction/recovery rooms as well as a treadmill with filming facilities. An adjacent conference center can view the surgical suite. The two 16-horse resident wings (8,700 sf) have direct indoor access to the treatment/exam/surgical facilities and feature rubber floors, continuous drains and exterior/interior doors for each stall.

Deer Creek Animal Hospital

Littleton, CO - Providing eleven exam rooms, a spacious new reception/waiting area, grooming/adoption suite, lab/pharmacy, employee/client restrooms, twenty-two luxury boarding suites with therapy pool, fourteen large runs, central utility/food prep/laundry, enclosed exercise yard and fifteen parking spaces within a compact 15,000 sf site was no simple task. BDA/CMP accomplished this with a unique two-story design solution. Renovations were also completed to the adjacent 4,000 sf hospital to accommodate new treatment/surgical facilities. The two buildings were then joined by a connector structure to form a complete facility that appears to be of a single design. CMP Construction staff phased the work so not a single clinic day was lost through completion.

South Suburban Animal Hospital

Veterinary Economics 2007 Hospital Design Competition Winner - General Practice more than 6,500 sf.

Perrysburg, OH - Designed and built in 2005 - 2006 by BDA/CMP, this 9,000 sf hospital sets a new standard for state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals. Exterior shape and materials balance requirements of the Development and the Owner creating a solid form and strong massing. Stone, stucco, brick and glass combine to establish the desired image. The facility features seven exam rooms, in-house lab and pharmacy, radiology, treatment and special procedures rooms. Ancillary services are retail, grooming, luxury boarding, indoor training and daycare.
